R&L Carriers review by Lisa M

HORRIFIC experience with R&L Carriers. Whomever is making decisions at R&L is a pathetic excuse for a human being. I have been in supply chain management/manufacturing for 26 years. I have dealt with some truly shady carriers in that time. R&L absolutely takes the cake! We reached out to R&L for quotes on material needed quickly from China. We have seen a MASSIVE increase in demand since COVID19 outbreak. This particular material is needed to manufacture credit cards, benefit cards, child support, UNEMPLOYEMENT, SNAP, etc... R&L came back with a quote and it did not include terms (cash pay), so I declined for that reason. The rep called me back and said that since this material was critical to the well being of so many Americans during this time, they would be extending Net30 benefits to us. GREAT! I thanked him profusely, signed the quote and told them to pick up the load. The following day, the same rep called and said he made a mistake, credit line was only 35k for those terms. Considering the rate was $160,000, I explained that we could not do it and that we would be giving the load to UPS or Fedex since both were extending terms to us. The rep said that he had already applied for an increased credit limit and that he did not expect an issue having it approved. I thanked him but explained that we could not afford delay to wait for that approval since this material is critical to production and MILLIONS of American's are depending on those benefits to keep them above water during this time. Since he had quoted 2 loads, I told him that he could still seek approval and if granted, we can have then pick up the 2nd load. I called UPS to pick up the 1st load from our supplier in China. That was on Thursday evening, I scheduled the UPS pickup for the material. Monday, I get a call from R&L telling me that they are delivering a load that they picked up a few weeks ago of critical material. I thanked him for the information. He then went on to discussing terms. I honestly thought that they were attempting to work out terms for the 2nd shipment which was also ready at our suppler. It was not until the 3rd phone call about the terms that they now said that they could not extend, that I was told that they picked up the load that I had CANCELLED! As a result, I asked them to return the material to our supplier. At that time, I asked if they were planning on holding our material hostage, to which the answer was "NO!!! of course not!". Next I receive an email from the GM demanding $36k to release our material. Apparently we owed them $12k from past invoices and they were now pulling ALL terms and would not deliver until that was paid. They demanded full payment on the previous load that they were authorized to pick up that was scheduled for delivery the prior day. That load had Net 30 terms when we agreed to it- It did not matter, they were changing it now. The GM as well as the owner were made aware that this material was necessary to manufacture much needed unemployment cards for MILLIONS OF AMERICANS. They DID NOT CARE, NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. They then changed that demand to $46k, and are now changing it once again to $56k- Despite putting the demand for $41k in writing. These are despicable, sorry excuses for human beings that are okay with EXTORTING the ONLY company commissioned to make unemployment cards during the COVID19 outbreak. This epidemic has affected MILLIONS of Americans- Unemployment, SNAP, Child support, etc... Is their ONLY life line right now. R&L is doing everything they possibly can to PREVENT the manufacture of these cards. They are EXTORTING $56k from us to release these materials when really there is only about $36K due (Once you remove the agreed upon terms). It is DISGUSTINGLY HEARTLESS AND AS DIRTY AND SHADY AS A COMPANY CAN BE. They have ZERO compassion or concern for anyone during this time. It truly is DISGRACEFUL- I cannot imagine how miserable someone has to be to become such a sociopath! May they reap what they have sown. What comes around goes around. Not man's law, it is GOD's law and NOBODY IS EXEMPT. May you reap what you have sown R&L- I don't understand how you sleep at night, I truly don't. To all thinking of using this carrier: Do you want to do business with a company that will change terms TWICE AFTER PICKING UP A LOAD? THEN go on to HOLD THAT MATERIAL HOSTAGE AND CHANGE THE DEMANDS 3 TIMES TO RELEASE IT. That is EXTORTION, plain and simple. I will file complaints as well as inform the government agencies involved to advise them of this extortion. The entire situation that would have been prevented had your rep been HONEST in the first place. Talk about a bait and switch! BUYER BEWARE: R& L will agree to TERMS to get you to sign a quote. They will then remove those terms AFTER picking up the load! They will DEMAND excessive amounts of money in order to release your material. Truly SAD (x's10000!). There are way too many integral carriers out there that will not extort your business! Save yourself a lot of aggravation and money- Avoid R&L!
